Gus Poyet replaced as Real Betis boss by Victor Sanchez del Amo

Gus Poyet has been sacked as manager of Real Betis and will be replaced by Victor Sanchez del Amo, the club have announced.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion and Sunderland manager Poyet was appointed in the summer but dismissed after taking 11 points from his opening 11 games in charge with Betis in 14th place in La Liga, two places above the relegation zone.

Poyet's technical staff, Mauricio Taricco, Charlie Oatway and Andy Beasley, have also left the club.

Victor, a former Olympiakos and Deportivo la Coruna manager, will begin his tenure with fixtures against Las Palmas, Eibar and Deportivo before the end of November.

"I come to Real Betis with tremendous hope and all the motivation in the world to excite one of the biggest fan bases in the country," Victor said.

"The union between the team and Betis supporters is unbreakable, as Betis have proved throughout their history."
