RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl in talks over extending contract

Ralph Hasenhuttl has said his work at RB Leipzig is not finished, with the in-demand coach telling a news conference he is in talks to extend his contract beyond 2019.

Hasenhuttl, 50, has been linked with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in recent days, and on Thursday kicker reported that he was frustrated that the club had not entered contract talks earlier this month, as announced in December.

However, he said: "I feel good here, and I could imagine pushing the limits with this team -- limits we don't even see right now.

"I had good talks with the hierarchy this week, and after our conversation both sides can imagine that we will work together beyond 2019.

"We had a good conversation, and I put a lot of thoughts into my future in the last couple of days.

"With this club and this team, I don't think we've reached the point where I'd say that we've reached our limit and can't continue to develop."

Having finished their first-ever Bundesliga campaign as runners-up last season, Leipzig are currently sixth in the Bundesliga and have reached the Europa League quarterfinals.

Before the international break, they beat Bayern Munich 2-1 to remain in the race for the three remaining Champions League spots, and Hasenhuttl said that had boosted his confidence that the team could achieve great things.

"The Bayern match leads to a clear view of where this team is right now," he added. "That's why I can imagine working with this team for a long time."
