Gennaro Gattuso interested in becoming Rangers manager

Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso has revealed that he would be keen to return to Rangers as manager.

Gattuso, 37, cut his managerial teeth with Sion and Palermo before resigning from Greek club OFI Crete over financial issues at the end of 2014. However, the former midfielder -- who was 19 when he was signed for Rangers before embarking on a glittering career with Milan -- insisted he wants to return to Scotland.

Rangers, though, are in a troubling situation as former director Dave King has called a general meeting to remove chairman David Somers, chief executive Derek Llambias, finance director Barry Leach and director James Easdale from their positions of power -- replacing them with himself, former "Blue Knight" Paul Murray and John Gilligan, the one-time managing director of Glasgow brewer Tennent's.

Once the dust has settled, Gattuso would consider a return.

"I still have a lot of memories here. It was 15 years ago that I started to play here," he said. "I felt the same running out there again. I'm maybe carrying five of six kilos more but it still felt fantastic. But now the club has big problems. They need to find a way of solving those.

"I would be interested in the vacancy. I stopped playing two years ago. Now my job is to become a coach. That's normal. But at this time the road [to the Rangers job] is far away. We can speak but the problem now is that there is not one chairman but five people in control of the club. It's difficult."

"I know the club has big problems at this moment but Rangers is still a big club with a big story behind it. For me it would be a big honour to manage this club and a big opportunity."
