Chris Ramsey: 'Heated' QPR team talk could help turn around season

Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey believes a "heated" half-time discussion during Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace could end up being a turning point in the club's season.

QPR, who are 19th in the Premier League table and four points adrift of safety, struggled at Selhurst Park and found themselves 3-0 down at the break.

However, the team's second-half performance was encouraging for Ramsey, and he hopes it will serve as a launch pad for a strong finish to the campaign -- starting with Sunday's game against Everton at Loftus Road.

"There was a constructive heated discussion at half-time," Ramsey told a news conference. "Our second-half performance was better.

"I think the players realised they didn't want the game to fall into a debacle for the travelling fans that had woken up early that morning to come to the game.

"The heated discussion was important. It shows that people want to stay in the division and want to do well for this club. It was constructive.

"We have an experienced squad here and we have people that will try their best to make sure the other players do their best to stay focused and try to win the next game."

Ramsey said that, with just nine games remaining, QPR's players must show a fighting spirit every time they play.

"We are all in it together," he said. "The players have to pick themselves up. We have to regroup."

Ramsey knew when he took over last month that the task of keeping QPR in the Premier League was going to be hard, although he is grateful for the opportunity he has been given.

"You are not going to get a call from Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Manchester City or Arsenal," Ramsey said. "You are always going to get your baptism in a situation where things appear not to be going well. It's a tough baptism.

"I think I've handled it quite well with the players. Whether we maintain this situation or not remains to be seen. As far as dealing with the situation, it is one that I've welcomed.

"I'm hoping that together we can get ourselves above that line and start next season in the Premier League."
