Queens Park Rangers appear close to appointing Harry Redknapp's successor after chairman Tony Fernandes suggested he has landed his "dream manager."

Redknapp, 67, stepped down last week after citing the need for knee surgery as a reason why he could not continue at the Loftus Road helm -- with QPR currently sitting 19th in the Premier League.

Chris Ramsey has been filling the void on a caretaker basis, with sources telling ESPN FC last week that former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood was in talks over the role.

While Ramsey said Sherwood did a "fantastic" job at Spurs and is eager to return to work as soon as possible, Fernandes' comment on Twitter seemed to suggest an unlikely candidate is set to take on the position.

"Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I'm very happy. Press all wrong," he wrote.

Redknapp had guided QPR back into the Premier League through the Championship playoffs last season having been unable to keep them in the top flight after taking over in 2012.

But, having lost all 11 of their league away games this term, he left his position just a day after the transfer window closed having missed out on making any last-minute recruits to help in the battle against relegation.

It had been anticipated that Sherwood was the only serious contender for the role, having previously worked with Ramsey and QPR director of football Les Ferdinand at White Hart Lane.

Ramsey will remain in charge of first-team affairs at Sunderland on Tuesday evening.
