David Patino named Pumas coach to replace Sergio Egea

Liga MX club Pumas have parted ways with temporary head coach Sergio Egea and replaced him with interim boss David Patino in the university club's second coaching change of the 2017 Apertura.

Argentine Egea was the club's sporting vice president and only took over managerial duties on Aug. 23, following head coach Francisco "Paco" Palencia's departure. The club hasn't yet announced whether Egea will still be the sporting vice president.

Palencia's side won two of its first four games in the Apertura, but slipped to week five and six losses to Tigres and Morelia, which cost the former Mexico international his job.

Egea managed just one point from his five Liga MX games in charge, but was expected to remain coach while the club searched for Palencia's long-term replacement.

Pumas are considered one of Mexico's "big four" teams in terms of popularity but sit in last place in the 2017 Apertura table on seven points from 11 games.

Last Sunday, fans protested after last Sunday's 4-1 loss to Mexico City rival Cruz Azul.

Patino was an assistant coach at Pumas and has taken over on an interim basis before back in 2014. His first game in charge will be after the international break on Oct. 14 against Necaxa.
