Andres Guardado to miss PSV Champions League clash vs. Atletico

PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday confirmed that Mexico international Andres Guardado will be out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury and will miss the Dutch Eredivisie club's first Champions League Round of 16 match against Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder was forced to come off in the second half of a 4-2 home victory against De Graafschap last weekend.

The club said in a statement that he "overstretched his muscles to control a ball" and added that he has started a "rehabilitation programme created by the PSV physios."

PSV navigated their way out of a Champions League group containing Wolfsburg, Manchester United and CSKA Moscow to reach the Round of 16 stage and set up a tie against Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old was a key figure in those wins, just as he has been for the club this season in the league. In September, he spent a month on the bench after injuring his ankle during the win against United.
