Portland Timbers sign Lanus forward Lucas Melano

The Philadelphia Union triumphed at PPL Park with a narrow 3-0 win over the Portland Timbers, courtesy of goals from Andrew Wenger and two from Vincent Nogueira.

The Portland Timbers have signed Argentine forward Lucas Melano from Argentine first-division side Lanus on Friday .

Melano joins the club as a designated player. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Timbers did say that targeted allocation money was used to lower the budget charge of Fanendo Adi, which freed up the DP slot.

Argentina, Valencia great Pablo Aimar retires at age 35

Former Argentina and Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.

The veteran playmaker, who had been playing in his home country with River Plate, announced his plans after coach Marcelo Gallardo left him off the team's next Copa Libertadores match.
