Portugal are not boring and defensive, cannot be compared to Greece - Nani

Nani has dismissed accusations that Portugal are boring and defensive.

A last-minute goal in extra time helped Portugal progress to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Croatia on Saturday, but Nani and his teammates struggled to create chances for the third time in four games at the European Championship.

However, the Fenerbahce winger believes that the 3-3 draw with Hungary that booked Portugal a spot in the knockout stages proved that his side are capable of playing exciting football.

And the former Manchester United midfielder also denied that this Portugal squad are 2016's equivalent of the 2004 Greece side, who won the Euros with a series of defensive displays.

"I do not see it like that -- we've played four games and Portugal cannot be compared to Greece," Nani said. "We have played different games in different ways. I think we have played well and against Hungary, for example, we scored a lot of goals and put on an exhibition in attack.

"But it's clear that it can't always be like that. Our aim is to go as far as possible and if we need to sacrifice playing well in order to do get a result, we will do so."

Nani made his 100th appearance for the national team against Croatia and believes that he is playing as well as he ever has ahead of Thursday's quarterfinal against Poland.

"I feel good," Nani said. "I am here to help Portugal and possibly I am in the best form I have ever been with the national team. I have come to this Euros to help out, score goals and contribute to the success of the team.

"We have an objective which is to win the title and we will do everything to achieve it."
