Zenit St Petersburg's Danny injures knee, out of Portugal's Euro 2016

Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Danny has been ruled out of Portugal's Euro 2016 campaign after tearing ligaments in his knee on Saturday against Spartak Moscow.

The club confirmed the news on Monday, stating the player suffered a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee that will require surgery.

The 32-year-old former Sporting Lisbon man will be out of action for 8-9 months as he recovers from the injury.

On his Instagram account, Zenit's Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas expressed condolences for his countryman.

Dear Danny I want to wish you well and I sincerely hope that you can make a quick recovery. We will miss your magic in the pitch but off it you will continue to be decisive as our captain and leader. Stay strong.
