Massimo Maccarone cleared to make FFA Cup debut for Brisbane Roar

Italian striker Massimo Maccarone will play for Brisbane against Melbourne Victory in Wednesday's FFA Cup clash, after receiving a last-minute visa clearance.

The marquee man scored twice in his Roar debut against Peninsula Power in a club trial on Saturday, but needed visa approval to play in the sanctioned contest against arch-rivals Victory.

Coach John Aloisi confirmed his availability, but said experienced goalkeeper Michael Theo would miss the Perry Park encounter as he battles a cold.

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi believes new signing Massimo Maccarone can help mould young gun Nick D'Agostino into an A-League star.

Maccarone was officially unveiled as the club's newest recruit on Monday after signing a one-season marquee deal, replacing Jamie Maclaren as the Roar's go-to forward.

But more than just scoring goals, Aloisi expects the former Serie A and Premier League star to help usher in the club's next generation. D'Agostino is top of that list.

Massimo Maccarone made 28 appearances for Empoli last season, scoring five goals.

Brisbane Roar's search for a marquee frontman is over with veteran Italian Massimo Maccarone joining the A-League club on a one-year deal.

Coach John Aloisi confirmed Maccarone has accepted an offer from the Roar and is expected to arrive in Australia in the coming days to meet his new teammates.

"Massimo's excited to be joining us," Aloisi told the Courier Mail.

"Massimo not only makes great forward runs but he also links up with players around him very well.
