What did Fraser Forster say to James Milner before his penalty miss?

Sunday's 0-0 draw between Liverpool and Southampton wasn't a game for the history books. The visiting Saints didn't register a shot on goal, nor did they seem particularly interested. Meanwhile Liverpool huffed and puffed but couldn't blow Fraser Forster's house down.

The game's biggest talking point was James Milner's missed penalty, notable in that it was his first failure from the spot since 2009. Which had us wondering: For someone so normally dialed in from 12 yards out, did Forster's pre-kick...

Southampton must take Fraser Forster and Jack Stephens out of the firing line

Claude Puel is one of the most-mild mannered managers in Premier League history but the Southampton boss needs to show his ruthless streak to keep alive the club's hopes of achieving a top eight finish.

For 45 minutes of Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at Chelsea, Puel's men looked like they could have the beating of champions-elect Chelsea. But for all their vibrant and creative attack play, the south coast side were undone by the type of shambolic defending that has become the hallmark of their season, especially...

Fraser Forster looks to build on positive display against West Brom

It has been a difficult season to be an England goalkeeper.

Joe Hart had to flee to Italy after being unceremoniously dumped by his Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Stoke star Jack Butland's hopes of cashing in on Hart's Serie A exile by taking his No.1 jersey have been thwarted by a serious knee injury, from which he only this week made his comeback.

Meanwhile, Fraser Forster, the other most likely heir to Hart's throne, has been dogged by a lack of consistency and uncharacteristic errors.

Newcomer Gabbiadini continues blistering start in rout of Sunderland

Manolo Gabbiadini continued his sensational start to his Southampton career by scoring twice in Saturday's 4-0 rout of bottom club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Saints added a third via a Jason Denayer own goal and substitute Shane Long bagged a fourth late on as the EFL Cup finalists claimed a morale-boosting win ahead of their big Wembley date with Manchester United.

It was only the south coast side's second Premier League win since mid-December.

Redmond, Southampton win but could rue missed chances vs. Liverpool

Nathan Redmond
Nathan Redmond and Southampton were deserved winners, taking the game to Liverpool at St Mary's.

Southampton took a big step towards their first League Cup final in more than 30 years by upsetting the form book with a 1-0 semifinal first leg win at home against a disappointing Liverpool.

Nathan Redmond's early goal was enough to give the Saints a narrow, but deserved, lead to take to Anfield in two weeks' time.

Redmond and Cedric Soares both missed gilt-edged opportunities to give the Saints a 2-0 lead, which would have put them within touching distance of Wembley.

Rodriguez's double fires Southampton past south coast rivals Bournemouth

Southampton produced a stirring second-half performance to come back from a goal down and defeat south coast neighbours Bournemouth 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium.

Jay Rodriguez's double, after Ryan Bertrand had scored his first goal of the season to cancel out Nathan Ake's early opener, earned the Saints only their second Premier League away win of the season.

Despite being criticised by fans for his bland style of play, manager Claude Puel has now led Southampton to seventh place in the table.
