Bastian Schweinsteiger honoured before Bayern Munich testimonial

Bastian Schweinsteiger was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in Munich on Monday, recognising his contributions to the region and its people.

Schweinsteiger, 34, was born and raised in Bavaria, came up through the Bayern Munich academy and spent parts of 13 seasons with the club, winning the Bundesliga eight times and the Champions League in 2013. He also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.

Chicago Fire's Bastian Schweinsteiger excited for Bayern Munich farewell

Chicago Fire star Bastian Schweinsteiger is looking forward to being back with former club Bayern Munich for his testimonial match with the club in August, he has told kicker.

Bayern are set to host the Fire at the Allianz Arena on Aug. 28 as the former Germany captain, who will play a half for both teams, bids a final farewell to fans and the club at which he spent 17 years before joining Manchester United in 2015.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his first MLS start with the winning goal in LA Galaxy's win over Bastian Schweinsteiger and the Chicago Fire.

When the LA Galaxy traveled to the Chicago Fire on Saturday, it gave two highly decorated stalwarts the chance to once again square off.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic lined up in attack for the Galaxy, while Bastian Schweinsteiger was deployed in central defense by the Fire to directly counteract the Swede.

However, Schweinsteiger was unable to prevent Ibrahimovic from finding the net -- his third goal in three appearances for the Galaxy -- as the visitors mustered a narrow 1-0 victory at Toyota Park.

Louis van Gaal has hit out at Jose Mourinho over his treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger during their time together at Manchester United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger to have Bayern testimonial vs. Chicago Fire

Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger will return to the club for a testimonial match against his current club Chicago Fire in the summer.

Bayern announced that former Germany captain Schweinsteiger "will officially say farewell to Bayern and the club's fans" on Aug. 28 and play one half for each team.
