Man United's Axel Tuanzebe returns to Aston Villa on loan

The ESPN FC crew delve into Jose Mourinho's latest comments about Liverpool's spending and Manchester United's lack of transfer activity.
Jose Mourinho doesn't feel his Manchester United side are benefitting from their pre-season matches in the International Champions Cup.

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has agreed to join Aston Villa in a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old will rejoin the Championship club after making five appearances on loan at Villa Park last season before an ankle injury ended his campaign.

Tuanzebe, who has made eight senior appearances for United, was part of Jose Mourinho's squad for the U.S. tour and featured as a second-half substitute during the defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.

But...

Can Man United's returning loanees save the club millions in the transfer market?

Julien Laurens explains Paul Pogba's state of mind following a season which occasionally saw strained relationships with manager Jose Mouinho.
The ESPN FC panel rate the success of Jose Mourinho's time at Manchester United and discuss his relationship with Paul Pogba.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is already busy trying to strengthen his squad ahead of what he hopes is a Premier League title challenge next season. He has a 19-point gap to make up after Pep Guardiola's Manchester City ran away with the championship. But as well as new recruits, there are also players returning to Old Trafford who are hoping to be part of Mourinho's plans.

Andreas Pereira, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe all spent time on loan last season as they looked to gain...

Man United face Jose Mourinho-led overhaul in defence and midfield

The ESPN FC guys react to the pleasantries exchanged between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho before the encounter between Arsenal and Man United.

Jose Mourinho's assessment of Manchester United's season is simple: "Progress, but we need more."

With three Premier League games remaining, United have already amassed more points and scored more goals than they managed last season. Four points from fixtures against Brighton, West Ham and Watford would see them secure second place in the table, which would be their highest finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Mourinho is already convinced, probably correctly, that his team have been...

Axel Tuanzebe and Jake Clarke-Salter given England under-21 call-ups

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, Chelsea's Jake Clarke-Salter and Norwich's James Maddison have all been handed their first England under-21 call-ups.

The trio are in Aidy Boothroyd's squad for their Euro 2019 qualifier in Ukraine on Nov. 10.

They help fill the gap left by Joe Gomez, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham after they were selected for Gareth Southgate's senior squad.

Clarke-Salter and Tuanzebe have both played under Boothroyd for the U20s last term and Maddison has been with...

Jesse Lingard's brace easily carries Manchester United past Swansea

Manchester United made their way through to the final eight of the Carabao Cup largely without incident, as they claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to two goals from Jesse Lingard. His excellent finishes seemed to belong to a different game, as Swansea, with the exception of a couple of flourishes, offered little resistance. United, who made seven changes from their defeat against Huddersfield, deserve credit for a dominant performance.
