Gabriel not guaranteed games at Valencia after joining from Arsenal

Gabriel Paulista says he has taken a gamble by joining Valencia from Arsenal, with coach Marcelino offering him no guarantees regarding playing time.

Valencia signed the Brazilian centre-back for an undisclosed fee last month with the 26-year-old signing a five-year contract.

Gabriel, who is reunited with Marcelino, his former Villarreal coach, at the Mestalla stadium, made a total of 64 appearances for Arsenal after joining in January 2015.

He told CV Radio: "Marcelino called me up and said he...

Valencia complete signing of defender Gabriel Paulista from Arsenal

Arsenal have sold centre-back Gabriel Paulista to Spanish club Valencia in a deal reportedly worth around £10 million.

He signed a five-year deal and has a buyout clause of €80m, Valencia said.

The move brings an end to a two-and-a-half-year spell for Gabriel at the Emirates Stadium, during which he struggled to lock down a place in Arsene Wenger's XI.

Gabriel joined Arsenal from Villarreal in January 2015 but struggled to settle in the Premier League, in part because he did not speak...

Valencia on brink of signing defender Gabriel Paulista from Arsenal

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista is on the verge of joining Valencia in a reported €12 million deal.

Gabriel arrived in Valencia on Thursday, and Superdeporte reported that the 26-year-old will sign a five-year contract.

He moved to Arsenal from Villarreal for £15m in 2014 but struggled to earn a regular place in Arsene Wenger's side.

Gabriel will be reunited with his former Villarreal coach Marcelino and told reporters: "I'm very happy and delighted.

"I've spoken to Marcelino on several...

Arsene Wenger facing Arsenal defensive crisis in FA Cup final

LONDON -- Arsenal are facing a defensive crisis heading into the FA Cup final after Gabriel Paulista was ruled out and Shkodran Mustafi remains doubtful, meaning Arsene Wenger may have to ditch his successful back-three formation for what could still be his last game in charge.

Wenger said on Wednesday that Gabriel will be out for six to eight weeks with a damaged medial knee ligament, while Mustafi is still sick and has been kept out of training this week.

Gabriel was injured in the Premier League...

Too little, too late, Arsenal beat Everton but still miss out on top four

LONDON --  Three thoughts from Arsenal's 3-1 win over Everton from the Emirates on the final day of the Premier League season.

1. Victory not enough

Even if Arsene Wenger stays on, as now appears likely, next season will be one of great change at Arsenal. For the first time since 1998, they will not be in the Champions League. Liverpool holding their nerve against Middlesbrough made victory here for Arsenal academic. They gave it a go, rolled with the punches, but were powerless to prevent...

Nacho Monreal, Arsenal fortunate to grab 'unconvincing' win vs. Leicester

As Premier League wins go, this will go down in the "unconvincing" column. Despite making changes to the team, Arsenal looked like a side that had spent a lot of energy at Wembley last Sunday.

Leicester had little ambition beyond defending, but the Gunners found it hard to make chances and break down what was an obdurate performance from the visitors. Sunday's match-winner, Alexis Sanchez, was wasteful; Mesut Ozil found it hard to get into the game; and Theo Walcott had one of those games where...
