Despite big-name recalls, Partey remains Ghana's key man

The build-up to Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia has been less than ideal for coach Kwesi Appiah.

Kwadwo Asamoah, one of the Black Stars' most impressive players in Europe this season, has withdrawn following a knee injury.

However, the circumstances of his absence prompted assistant coach Maxwell Konadu to deny suggestions that the Internazionale man had pulled out due to a rift with the Ayew brothers, thereby giving oxygen to the rumours.

Appiah will be hoping the focus...

Antoine Griezmann and Co. started fast against newly-promoted Huesca and cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Koke impressed again, chipping in a goal from a central position against Huesca.

Atletico Madrid continued their recent upturn in form as they swatted aside La Liga new boys Huesca 3-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday night.

It was as comfortable a night as they come for Los Rojiblancos, who dominated from start to finish and had the game wrapped up after 35 minutes thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Partey and a fluke from Koke.

The second half was a non-event but Atleti's form looks to be on the up just in time for this weekend's mouth-watering Derbi Madrileno...

Thomas Partey opens door to Premier League move

Thomas Partey has revealed that he would embrace the opportunity to play in the Premier League in the future, although he's not currently eyeing a move away from Atletico Madrid.

The powerhouse enjoyed a fine campaign in La Liga last term, featuring 33 times for Diego Simeone's side during a breakout season.

He was rewarded by being named Ghana Player of the Year during an awards ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Sunday, and took the opportunity to discuss his future plans with KweséESPN.

Thomas Partey named Ghana Player of the Year

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been named Ghana Player of the Year, having been unveiled as the winner at the inaugural Ghana Football Awards.

The ceremony, which took place at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, celebrated the 25-year-old as the outstanding Ghanaian individual in the world game following an exceptional campaign in Spain.

He saw off competition from fellow nominees Jordan Ayew and Albert Adomah to clinch the award.

The 2017-18 season was something of a breakout year for Partey,...

Thomas runs the midfield as Gameiro earns Atletico's win vs. Athletic

Atletico Madrid's Kevin Gameiro celebrates scoring the opening goal vs Athletico Bilbao
Kevin Gameiro scored the opening goal as Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Atletico Madrid ensured the gap with La Liga leaders Barcelona remains at seven points after swatting aside Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

The visitors offered little and it appeared only a matter of time before substitute Kevin Gameiro fired Los Rojiblancos ahead after some smart play from Antoine Griezmann. The No. 21 then turned provider as he fed Diego Costa to secure the points and keep the pressure on the Catalans just a fortnight before the two sides meet.

Thomas steals Atletico three points with last-ditch goal vs. Deportivo

Thomas Partey's last-gasp free kick ensured Atletico Madrid's week did not take another turn for the worse as they squeaked past Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 on Saturday.

It had been one of the least memorable games of the season thus far on the north-eastern coast of Spain, with neither side looking like scoring. That was until Lucas Hernandez broke forward two minutes into stoppage time before being felled on the edge of the box.

With Gabi and Nicolas Gaitan standing over it, Depor were caught...
