Chicago Fire's Nemanja Nikolic wins MLS Golden Boot award with 24 goals

Chicago Fire striker Nemanja Nikolic has won the MLS Golden Boot with 24 goals in his first season in the league.

Nikolic made a late surge to score the most goals in the league, surpassing New York City FC's David Villa, who led the race most of the season and finished second with 22 goals.

Portland's Diego Valeri finished third with 21, while Atlanta's Josef Martinez scored 19 and Montreal's Ignacio Piatti had 17.

The Chicago Fire continued their scintillating form with an emphatic home win over Vancouver.

It was another good week for Nemanja Nikolic of the Chicago Fire, as he scored best in the Audi Player Index. Nikolic had two goals in a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps, and that gives him an MLS-leading 16 goals this season. The two goals accounted for 606 of his 1,134 Player Index points.

MLS leading scorer Nemanja Nikolic added two goals to his season tally to help the Chicago Fire thrash the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-0 on Saturday.

Nikolic now has 16 goals through 18 games and is on pace to break the MLS single-season record of 27, jointly held by Roy Lassiter, Chris Wondolowski and Bradley Wright-Phillips.
