Tigres, Monterrey stars dominate Liga MX Apertura Best XI of 2017

Tigres fully deserved their Apertura title and have the perfect manager in Ferretti.
Tigres, led by Ricardo Ferretti, fully deserve five nods in the Best XI.

Another season is in the books, and this one included one of the most colorful endings to date, with the first Clasico Regio final, a two-legged clash that showcased the best of Mexican football. Two clubs that have become strongholds in the league went head-to-head in a final that was elegantly played both on and off the field.

The memories of that final will linger, but the main takeaway is that Monterrey and Tigres have left a high benchmark, and it's up to the rest of Liga MX clubs to catch...

Enner Valencia is destined to be next great Ecuador striker in Liga MX

Valencia has been superb for Tigres since returning to Liga MX but a title would seal his sparkling season.

During his 19-year playing career, Ecuador's Agustin "Tin" Delgado played for clubs like Cruz Azul, Necaxa and Pumas. He scored Ecuador's first-ever goal in a World Cup in 2002 in a match between Mexico and Ecuador, a match that the Mexican national team went on to win 2-1.

Delgado's best era in Mexican football came with Necaxa between 1999 and 2001, a spell in which he scored 40 goals. The tall, agile striker was the first goal-machine from Ecuador that captivated Mexican football; then came...

Who would make the cut to start on a Monterrey/Tigres superteam?

In terms of roster depth and talent, no other Liga MX teams can compete with the likes of Monterrey and Tigres. With a long list of the best players that the Mexican first division has to offer, it's no surprise that the two sides will be battling in the 2017 Apertura final this week.

When looking at the marquee names like Andre-Pierre Gignac, Aviles Hurtado, Dorlan Pabon and various others, one can't help but fantasize about a potential superteam that combines the powers of Monterrey and Tigres....

Tigres' Valencia, Monterrey's Funes Mori top entirely Monterrey-based Best XI

Enner Valencia's two goals against Club America made him a shoo-in for Liga MX'S team of the week.
Enner Valencia's two goals against Club America made him a shoo-in for Liga MX's team of the week.

The Liga MX championship trophy will belong to the city of Monterrey this season. The only question left to answer is whether Los Rayados or Los Tigres will claim the crown. Both finalists combined for nine goals during the semifinals, and got through their respective rivals without allowing a single score against them.

Unsurprisingly, the top performers from the semifinals come from both Monterrey squads. As the teams prepare for their collision course at the top, here are the men who shone the...

Marquez's legal troubles, Valencia's return to Pachuca headline Week 4

It's the fourth week of action in Mexico's Torneo Apertura. Our writers look at some of the key storylines to follow this weekend.

1. How will Marquez, Atlas react vs. Club America?

This was always going to be one of the most inviting weekend games. Atlas may have lost 3-2 last weekend to Toluca, but Jose Guadalupe Cruz has put together a strong team this season, while Miguel Herrera's Club America is quickly becoming box office worthy, especially with Cecilio Dominguez hitting his stride....

If Liga MX had an All-Star team, who would make the cut?

Nahuel Guzman's outsize personality and leadership skills would make him a starter for a Liga MX All-Star team.

MLS fans can hardly complain when their league is organizing All-Star games like the one against Real Madrid in Chicago this week, but the pull of a potential MLS vs. Liga MX All-Star event sometime down the line is obvious from both sides.

What would a Liga MX starting XI and squad look like?

This is not an exact science, and some will be vehemently opposed to some of the choices. It's generally about picking the best players, but this would be a showcase event and you need to sprinkle some...
