Series of brilliant saves from Alisson help Roma steal draw with Atletico

Roma began their Champions League campaign Tuesday with a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid rather than a heavy defeat, and they have goalkeeper Alisson to thank. The Brazilian pulled off a string of fantastic saves to deny manager Diego Simeone's Atleti side what could have been a deserved win.

Alisson, who has been criticised in the early weeks of the season, drew wild applause from the Stadio Olimpico after a Custer-esque display. He denied Vietto with a superb one-on-one stop just before...

Luciano Spalletti, Roma face Empoli with one eye on Lazio showdown

On Saturday night Roma host Empoli. With Juventus travelling to third-placed Napoli on Sunday night, the clash with the struggling Tuscans is a great chance for the Giallorossi to either close the yawning gap between them and the Serie A leaders or cement their hold on second place, but in Rome that's been thrown to one side as everyone fixes their gaze on the one game that truly matters -- the Derby. Which this time might be a derby on and off the pitch.

"DERBY: THE TACTICS" screamed the front...

Dzeko unrecognisable, Roma fall apart in the second half at Lyon

Roma's season looks increasingly like it's coming to its traditional early spring end after an embarrassing second-half collapse at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais that leaves the Giallorossi with, if not a mountain, then a very steep hill to climb in the second leg of their Europa League tie with Lyon.

Forty-five minutes into Thursday night's match Roma looked good for the quarterfinals after coming back from an early Mouctar Diakhaby goal to lead 2-1 through goals from Mohamed Salah and Federico...

Nainggolan, Strootman lead Roma to gritty win at Udinese

Radja Nainggolan's first-half goal was all Roma needed to beat Udinese and pull closer to Juventus at the top of table.

Roma closed the gap between them and Serie A leaders Juventus to just one point after their gritty 1-0 win at Udinese was followed up by a dramatic 2-1 win for Fiorentina over the Old Lady, but regardless of the result of that intense encounter the Giallorossi can be happy with their side's new-found ability to grind out results when not at their best.

The narrow victory at the Stadio Friuli was the second such win for Roma in as many weeks, and apart from one scrabbled first-half double save...

Szczesny, Fazio help Roma hold onto gritty win at Genoa

Roma celeb v Genoa 20170108
In a tough environment and facing poor conditions, Roma showed a new-found toughness and resolve versus Genoa.

Roma started 2017 by taking three points from one of Serie A's toughest grounds on Sunday afternoon, with a gritty win in icy temperatures and on a bumpy pitch at Genoa. This win showed that the notoriously flaky Giallorossi can mix it up away from home and also gives supporters hope that they can take their blistering home form on the road.

A clumsy own goal from Armando Izzo nine minutes before the break gave Roma a deserved half-time lead that they had to dig deep to defend, but a makeshift...

Thomas Vermaelen, Juan Jesus fail to fire in Giallorossi debuts

AS Roma appeared to have had the opening leg of their Champions League playoff match against Porto by the scruff of the neck following Felipe's 21st-minute own goal on Wednesday, before promptly melting down in front of the Dragoes exciting-but-flaky attack.

Andre Silva levelled the score for the hosts just after the hour following Emerson Palmieri's handball, and Roma could count themselves very lucky that the Portuguese club's finishing was as poor as it was after Thomas Vermaelen's red card left...
