Chicago Fire acquire U.S. striker C.J. Sapong from Philadelphia Union

With a new manager and another big signing in the winter, Atlanta United are gearing up to defend their MLS Cup title in 2019.

The Chicago Fire have acquired striker C.J. Sapong from the Philadelphia Union, the club announced on Saturday.

Sapong, 30, changes clubs for what could be up to $450,000 in combined allocation money, with the Union set to receive $200,000 in 2019 General Allocation Money, $100,000 in 2020 Targeted Allocation Money, and possibly an additional amount in 2019 General Allocation Money.

Philadelphia Union sign forward CJ Sapong to new contract

The Philadelphia Union have signed forward CJ Sapong to a new deal, the club announced on Wednesday.

Though terms of the contract have not been revealed, Sapong, 29, is set to receive a raise on the $300,000 he made last season and will now stay at the club through 2019, with Philadelphia retaining an option for the 2020 season.
