Lampard on transfer ban: I don't need players

New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has played down the effects of the transfer ban on the club, saying that he doesn't need to make new signings.

Chelsea are not able to register new senior players due to the two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA in February and upheld in May after the governing body found them guilty of breaching rules related to the signing of players under the age of 18.

"I think I've inherited very good players," Lampard said in a press conference in Japan. "We can't...

Chelsea sign Kovacic from Real Madrid for £40M

Chelsea have announced they have completed the permanent signing of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid in a deal worth £40.3 million.

Kovacic's registration remained with Chelsea until June 30 after his season-long loan spell, meaning they could sign him from Madrid without breaching the two-window transfer ban handed down by FIFA in February and upheld in May.

Chelsea's Sarri: I don't need to sign Jorginho alternative

LONDON -- Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has said he does not want to sign a midfield alternative to Jorginho but would like to make Mateo Kovacic's loan from Real Madrid permanent.

Since the January sale of Cesc Fabregas, the coach said Kovacic is the only other player in his squad capable of filling in at the base of midfield.

"You know very well that, in that position, we have some problems because we have only Jorginho," Sarri, whose side face West Ham at home on Monday, told a news conference.

Pedro, Kovacic, Kante 9/10 as Chelsea rallied to stun Spurs and give Sarri a big boost

LONDON -- Chelsea recovered from their Carabao Cup final heartache and eased the pressure on Maurizio Sarri, as a second-half strike from Pedro Rodriguez and a comical own goal by Kieran Trippier secured a 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Positives

Sarri's job was potentially on the line, as Chelsea's top-four hopes dangled by a thread heading into Wednesday night's match, but victory has provided a significant boost to both. Champions League football might yet be back...

Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho overrun in midfield as listless Chelsea dumped from the FA Cup

Goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba helped Manchester United avenge last season's FA Cup final defeat by dumping Chelsea out of the competition in the fifth round, winning by a score of 2-0 on another torrid night for Maurizio Sarri.

Positives

Chelsea still have the Carabao Cup final to look forward to next week ... against the Manchester City team that put six goals past them without reply a week ago.

Negatives

Chelsea's defending in the middle third of the pitch was woeful, allowing...
