LA Galaxy's Romain Alessandrini out until September after knee surgery

Two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic powered LA Galaxy past Philadelphia Union, extending their winning streak to four matches.

LA Galaxy star Romain Alessandrini will be sidelined until September after undergoing his third knee operation, the club announced on Friday.

The Galaxy announced Friday that he damaged his cartilage two weeks ago against during a 2-0 win against the Philadelphia Union.

The 30-year-old French midfielder attempted to play through the injury last weekend against Houston but came off after 16 minutes. He had surgery Thursday in Santa Monica.

The LA Galaxy's health issues have returned with both Romain Alessandrini and Giovani Dos Santos in doubt for Tuesday's match against the Colorado Rapids.

A full-strength Galaxy team began play on Saturday but wound up with a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Minnesota United and also saw two key players depart early.

The MLS All-Star roster is now complete with the announcement of the 13 players who will be joining the MLS All-Star Fan XI that was announced just under two weeks ago.

Romain Alessandrini is a "great player" who will only get better as he adjusts to MLS, LA Galaxy coach Curt Onalfo has said.

Alessandrini, 28, who signed with LA from Marseille in January, has lived up to his designated status with three goals and two assists in the Galaxy's past three games.

His first-half goal on Friday night helped LA beat the Montreal Impact, and Onalfo said he was pleased with what he had seen so far.
