Chicago Fire set to sign Gaitan from Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang

With MLS stars grabbing the attention of clubs overseas, the ESPN FC panel assess how the league is viewed in Europe.
Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino says he sees growth in football in the USA, and doesn't rule out one day managing in the MLS.

Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan will move to Major League Soccer to join the Chicago Fire, his Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang announced on Thursday.

Signed from Atletico Madrid exactly a year and a day earlier, the 31-year-old endured a nightmare start to his career in China with an 8-0 thrashing suffered at the hands of Shanghai SIPG on the opening day of the season.

He recovered to play 28 league games for the newly promoted team with his two goals and seven assists helping...

Atletico Madrid sell Yannick Carrasco, Nicolas Gaitan to China's Dalian Yifang

Atletico Madrid have sold Yannick Carrasco and Nicolas Gaitan to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang for undisclosed fees, the La Liga club announced on Monday afternoon.

The 24-year-old Carrasco leaves Atletico after making 124 appearances for the club since arriving in the summer of 2015 from Monaco.

Atletico Madrid got the scoring punch it needed by adding Diego Costa.

For Atletico Madrid, this transfer window was a welcome one, given it was the first transfer window for a good while in which they were actually permitted to register new players.

Usually having to fight off interest in their star players, this time around it was all about the star arrivals with Vitolo and Diego Costa joining the squad. Here, ESPN FC delves into Atleti's window.

What went right?

Nicolas Gaitan set for Atletico exit amid Premier League interest - agent

Nicolas Gaitan will leave Atletico Madrid in January and could move to the English Premier League, his agent has told Foot Mercato.

Gaitan moved to Atletico in 2016 after forging a reputation as a stylish attacker at Benfica but his switch to the Spanish capital did not work out with just 11 starts in La Liga last season.

His coach and fellow Argentine Diego Simeone has handed him just a single start in both the league and the Champions League this term, leaving the 29-year-old with little choice...

Manager Diego Simeone warrants 1/10 after disastrous draw vs. Qarabag

It was a Halloween horror show for Atletico Madrid as they failed to beat 10-man Qarabag for the second game in a row, drawing 1-1 to leave their chances of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages all but dead.

The performance was woeful from start to finish, with few -- if any -- players willing to take responsibility. They looked nervous in the opening exchanges, misplacing simple passes and that only got worse when they allowed Michel to ghost in unmarked to put the visitors ahead.
