Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino: Kieran Trippier still hampered by groin

Tottenham bounced back from their derby to defeat to Arsenal with a comfortable 3-0 over Southampton at Wembley.
Tottenham bounced back from their derby to defeat to Arsenal with a comfortable 3-1 over Southampton, at Wembley.
English Premier League: Charlie Austin (90'+3') Tottenham 3-1 Southampton
English Premier League: Son Heung-Min (55') Tottenham 3-0 Southampton
English Premier League: Lucas Moura (51') Tottenham 2-0 Southampton
English Premier League: Harry Kane (9') Tottenham 1-0 Southampton

Mauricio Pochettino fears Kieran Trippier has developed a persistent groin problem due to his exertions at the end of the World Cup after the right-back limped off against Southampton.

Trippier, who had been out of action since Nov. 10, played from the start in Wednesday's 3-1 victory over the Saints and played a key role in Spurs' third goal -- but he had to leave the field in the 87th minute.

"I think it's the same problem -- the same problem that started in the World Cup," said Pochettino in...

Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino: Kieran Trippier must remember he is a full-back

English Premier League: Raul Jimenez (79'PEN) Wolverhampton Wanders 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino has warned Kieran Trippier that he needs to improve defensively and remember he is a full-back after Tottenham's scare against Wolves.

Spurs were 3-0 up at Molineux on Saturday but then conceded twice from penalties to claim a 3-2 win. While 20-year-old centre-back Juan Foyth conceded both spot-kicks, Trippier was largely culpable each time, foolishly attempting a nutmeg just outside his own box and then failing to track Jonny's run.

Trippier had earlier set up a goal for...

Tottenham's Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier, among five players out for Champions League opener

Tottenham Hotspur will be without five players for their Champions League opener at Inter Milan, with Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko injured, plus Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier left at home for technical reasons.

Goalkeeper and captain Lloris has a thigh injury while midfielders Alli and Sissoko have hamstring problems that saw them miss Saturday's 2-1 Premier League home loss to Liverpool.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters on Monday that defenders Alderweireld...

Tottenham's Kieran Trippier out to ride England wave of confidence

Kieran Trippier says he hopes the experience he gained at the World Cup will help him become an even more important figure for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The England right-back, who impressed in Russia as the country reached the semifinals, returned to action with Spurs on Saturday and scored a fine free kick to give them a 74th minute lead against Fulham, on the way to a 3-1 home win at Wembley.

"It's crazy what a year can do because I only made my debut for England last year, and a year later...

Harry Kane ends August goal hex, Mousa Dembele changes the game vs. Fulham

Harry Kane scored an August goal for the first time in his career, adding to goals from Lucas Moura and Kieran Trippier in Spurs' win over Fulham.
Harry Kane scored an August goal for the first time in his career, adding to goals from Lucas Moura and Kieran Trippier in Spurs' win over Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur maintained their winning start to the season, responding to a Fulham fight back by scoring twice in the final 16 minutes at Wembley.

Lucas Moura gave Spurs a deserved half-time advantage with a fine 20-yard, curling strike, but the North Londoners had a wobble after the break and Aleksandar Mitrovic equalised with a close-range header.

Kieran Trippier restored Tottenham's lead with a 74th-minute free kick though, and Harry Kane then put the hosts out of sight, scoring his first...

Kieran Trippier fit to play for England vs. Belgium despite groin injury

Kieran Trippier is fit to play for England in the World Cup third-place game against Belgium after training with the rest of the squad on Friday.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender limped off in extra time of England's 2-1 semifinal loss to Croatia on Wednesday with a groin strain, having given his team the lead from a free kick in the fifth minute.

Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker, who were also fitness doubts after being forced off in the additional period against Croatia, also trained to ensure that...
