Mexico keeper Ochoa closing in on Napoli move

Mexico's Ochoa wants to win Gold Cup for son

CHICAGO -- Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is hoping to bring home the Gold Cup in one hand and Buzz Lightyear in the other.

The 33-year-old El Tri veteran has been instrumental in Mexico's run to Sunday's final against the United States in a squad without many of its bigger names, but didn't think about not showing up to the tournament, despite becoming a father for the third time just days before the tournament.

"[I] never [thought about not showing up], we actually made the calculations, everything...

Ochoa the hero as Mexico survive major Gold Cup scare... barely

HOUSTON -- Gerardo "Tata" Martino tucked the medallion his mother had given him before she passed away between his lips and asked for a favor from above. By that point of Saturday night, the Mexico coach had used up his substitutions and his tactical tweaks had been rendered irrelevant: El Tri were behind in the penalty shootout in their Gold Cup quarterfinal against Costa Rica, with the usually clinical Raul Jimenez seeing the first penalty of the shootout saved by Ticos goalkeeper Leonel Moreira.

Ochoa turns in another 10/10 performance when Mexico needs him

Steve Nicol sounds off on the CONCACAF Gold Cup, its lack of benefits for the USMNT and Mexico and how it affected his team as a coach in MLS.

Saturday's night Gold Cup quarterfinal between Mexico and Costa Rica was supposed to be a straightforward match for El Tri.

With new manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino cruising into the knockout round with seven consecutive wins, Mexico was expected to waltz past Costa Rica. Instead, Los Ticos stifled El Tri through an organized and defensive approach, forcing a draw and two halves of extra time which finished at a level 1-1 scoreline.

In an ensuing round of penalties, it was Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo...

Mexico's Ochoa: 'Time to leave' Standard Liege

USMNT's Gregg Berhalter praises the Mexican federation for its success in CONCACAF and says the organization has set the benchmark for MLS and U.S. Soccer.

Mexico national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is looking to leave Belgian club Standard Liege this summer, with Sunday's game against Genk likely to be his last in the Belgian first division.

"There's still a game left, but I think it will be my last," said Ochoa after his team's 2-0 win over Club Brugge on Thursday, in quotes published on the league's website.

"We've already spoken with the club and there are things still to resolve, but I think it is the time to leave."

Mexico Hot List: Henry Martin impresses in Argentina friendlies, but Marco Fabian struggles

Henry Martin, right, was one of several Mexico internationals to impress in a pair of friendlies against Argentina.

The international break is now officially over for Mexico. Following two consecutive 2-0 losses to Argentina in the last five days, El Tri has emerged from the November friendlies with a number of lessons learned. With a focus on those two recent matches, here is the latest national team hot-list.
