Dortmund's Rode facing 10 days out; Gotze, Schurrle, Kagawa to return

Shaka Hislop counters Aubameyang's statement about staying at Dortmund, saying he ended up 10th in queue for other clubs.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sebastian Rode could be set for a 10-day spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury as Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle and Shinji Kagawa are all set to return to team training in the "next few days."

Having joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in a €14 million transfer last summer, Rode struggled to impress in his first season at the club, winning only 893 minutes, spread out over 21 competitive appearances.

Things have looked better for the 26-year-old under new Dortmund...

Andre Schurrle scored twice as Germany extended their perfect start in World Cup qualifying Group C to five games with a 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in Baku.

Preferred by coach Joachim Low to Arsenal's Mesut Ozil in the starting lineup, Schurrle hit his side's first and last goals in the 19th and 81st minutes after Dima Nazarov had briefly dragged the hosts back level.

Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez also scored at the end of the first half to virtually secure the Germans' passage back to the finals in...

Dortmund face fatigue, selection woes for must-win game vs. Ingolstadt

Borussia Dortmund host next-to-last FC Ingolstadt in the Bundesliga on Friday night, looking to get back to winning ways in the league after coming away empty-handed from their trip to Hertha Berlin's Olympiastadion last weekend.

The Black and Yellows still sit in third place overall but the margin to a non-Champions League place has decreased after the 2-1 loss to Hertha; Dortmund are just three points ahead of last week's opponents. With fourth-placed Hoffenheim being only one point shy of the...

Dortmund's 'fringe players' to be called into action at stingy Hertha Berlin

DORTMUND, Germany -- After Wednesday's resounding 4-0 win over Benfica that saw Borussia Dortmund reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and lifted spirits altogether at the club, one of the Bundesliga's most unthankful tasks awaits the Ruhr side: a trip to Berlin's Olympiastadion.

Hertha Berlin aren't known to grab headlines for their spectacular and entertaining games at their home stadium because "spectacular" and "entertaining" would be a stretch to describe Hertha's pragmatic...

Dortmund face season-defining moment in second leg against Benfica

Thomas Tuchel's side dominated the first leg vs. Benfica but were let down by woeful finishing in the final third.

DORTMUND, Germany -- "It's the kind of game everyone looks forward to when signing a contract with Borussia Dortmund," Thomas Tuchel told his pre-match news conference ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League return leg against Benfica, in which Borussia Dortmund have to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

The Dortmund coach could hardly hold back his anticipation for the match, being aware of the special atmosphere the Westfalenstadion can create on a European night. It will be one of...

Klose, Gotze, Lahm: What happened to Germany's 2014 World Cup winners?

Germany surprised everyone in Brazil having come back from pretournament adversity to win it all.

It's been almost three years since Germany lifted the World Cup in Brazil after a terrific squad effort from start to finish amid difficult conditions. But where is that squad now?

Goalkeepers

Manuel Neuer, 30 -- The Bayern Munich keeper remains one of the best shot-stoppers in the world but is hardly ever tested in the Bundesliga, where his club continue to dominate.

Roman Weidenfeller, 36 -- Having been a surprise member of the Brazil squad, his stock soon fell at Dortmund, where he was...
