Holger Badstuber said he "did not feel the trust" of Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti after completing a move to boyhood club Stuttgart.

Badstuber, 28, was at Stuttgart from 2000 until 2002 before joining Bayern as a 13-year-old and going on to make his senior debut in 2009.

The Germany international won five Bundesliga titles and lifted the Champions League trophy in 2013.

Holger Badstuber was loaned to Schalke last season.

Stuttgart have confirmed the signing of free agent Holger Badstuber, who once played in their youth teams, on a one-year contract.

Badstuber, 28, was at Stuttgart from 2000 until 2002, before joining Bayern Munich and making his senior debut in 2009.

The Germany international won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern and lifted the Champions League trophy in 2013.

Holger Badstuber likely to continue career with promoted Stuttgart

Holger Badstuber joined Schalke on loan from Bayern Munich in January.

Despite originally hoping for a move abroad, it appears Holger Badstuber will be staying in Germany.

According to kicker, the 28-year-old left-back has agreed to join Stuttgart on a free transfer.

Badstuber, a former Germany international, spent two years in Stuttgart's youth academy before moving to Bayern Munich, where he made his first-team debut in 2009.

Holger Badstuber is seeking a new challenge outside of Bundesliga when he leaves Bayern Munich this summer, the former Germany defender has told Socrates magazine.

Badstuber, 28, has been heavily affected by injuries since late 2012 and, despite returning to full fitness last season, he was sent out on loan to Schalke and Bayern announced that he would be leaving the Allianz Arena when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Holger Badstuber to leave Bayern Munich on free transfer in the summer

Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber will leave the Bundesliga champions at the end of the current season, the club announced on Friday. 

Prior to joining Bundesliga rivals Schalke on loan in January, sources told ESPN FC that Manchester City were interested in acquiring Badstuber's services to link up with his former boss Pep Guardiola.
