Holger Badstuber spent last season with Stuttgart.

Defender Holger Badstuber wants to leave Stuttgart this summer to join a Champions League club, the Germany international has told Sport Bild.

Badstuber left Bayern Munich after the 2016-17 season to join his boyhood club Stuttgart on a one-year deal that is now set to expire.

The 29-year-old has played his entire career in Germany, but he said that he is interested in exploring a move to another country.

"Of course, [playing abroad] would be an experience that I would like to make at some stage....

Holger Badstuber said he "did not feel the trust" of Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti after completing a move to boyhood club Stuttgart.

Stuttgart have confirmed the signing of free agent Holger Badstuber, who once played in their youth teams, on a one-year contract.

Badstuber, 28, was at Stuttgart from 2000 until 2002, before joining Bayern Munich and making his senior debut in 2009.

Despite originally hoping for a move abroad, it appears Holger Badstuber will be staying in Germany.

According to kicker, the 28-year-old left-back has agreed to join Stuttgart on a free transfer.

Holger Badstuber is seeking a new challenge outside of Bundesliga when he leaves Bayern Munich this summer, the former Germany defender has told Socrates magazine.
