Sunderland boss David Moyes to Jack Rodwell: 'You're not a boy anymore'

David Moyes had told Jack Rodwell to start imposing himself on games just as the Sunderland midfielder ended a remarkable unwanted record in Saturday's win at Crystal Palace.

The crucial 4-0 victory represented the first Premier League fixture for 1,370 days in which Rodwell had started for the winning team, having last done so 39 matches ago when Manchester City defeated West Brom in May 2013.

It could also provide the platform 20th-placed Sunderland required to revive their season, in the same...

Jack Rodwell: Sunderland have gone 'a bit backwards' this season

Jack Rodwell has challenged his Sunderland teammates to drag the Black Cats out of trouble after admitting they have gone "backwards."

Sunderland are marooned at the foot of the Premier League table after Saturday's late 1-0 defeat at West Ham left them five points adrift of safety and without a victory nine games into the campaign.

Manchester United are still without a win while Tottenham look likely to beat the world. ESPN FC takes a look at some of the biggest protagonists and antagonists from the second Premier League weekend.

First-team football appears to agree with Jack Rodwell, who dominated for Sunderland the way he never did at Man City.

HEROES

Jack Rodwell has played only slightly more Premier League football than you or I in recent years, but unlike us, someone still believes in him. His slow recovery continued against Manchester United where he helped Lee Cattermole dominate the midfield. Not only did he score Sunderland's equaliser,...

Rodwell warns kids not to sign for City

New Sunderland signing Jack Rodwell has warned young English players not to derail their careers by signing for Manchester City.

Rodwell, 23, signed a five-year contract at the Stadium of Light this summer for  fee of 10 million pounds after a frustrating two years at the Etihad Stadium. He had joined from Everton for 12 million pounds in 2012 at the age of 21 but found chances in the first team hard to come by when fit.
