Parma captain Alessandro Lucarelli said he and his teammates are willing to foot the bill for their scheduled trip to play at Genoa this season if their club's dire financial situation continues.
The troubled Serie A side trained behind closed doors on Monday afternoon with the club's future still uncertain.
The Ducale club have not paid wages to players or staff since the summer and new owner Giampietro Manenti has failed to make the minimum payments against debt which were due on Feb. 16.
Parma's home clash with Udinese on Sunday was postponed because of a lack of finance and, with the club on the brink of bankruptcy, next weekend's away game at Genoa may not be played.
But Lucarelli told Radio Anch'io Sport thate his teammates still want to compete.
"We are ready to play but we want to feel protected," Lucarelli said. "We are willing to pay our trip to the Marassi stadium.
"If Parma is placed in a condition to play, we will play. The fact that we didn't play on Sunday saddened me, especially the reasons why the game didn't take place.
Manenti's Slovenian-based company Mapi Group purchased strugglers Parma earlier this month.
"It feels like we are in a movie. We've really gone through a lot, with four presidents this season," Lucarelli said. "As of today, the only solution I see possible is for the club to declare bankruptcy. Even Manenti is losing that credibility that the team had given him.
"Personally, I am prepared to play even if it means in Serie D."
Parma have an estimated debt of 197 million euros and Manenti is reportedly fighting against the clock to provide the resources to sustain the cash-strapped club.
"The most important meeting will take place [Tuesday] with Manenti," Federico Pizzarotti, mayor of the city of Parma, told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We will ask him to give us assurances. If he is not able to continue, he should step aside.
"Manenti is the one that has to find a financial solution, otherwise, he should move towards a judicially controlled administration.
"He is the one that has to take control of the situation."
Manenti told the newspaper he would not release his hold on the club so quickly.
"I'm going to meet with the mayor tomorrow, I can confirm that, but I'm not going to let go of the club," he said. "In fact, I'm working for the club in this moment.
"We're preparing our plan to present to the prefecture. It's difficult to understand what's happening."
Parma, coached by former Italy tactician Roberto Donadoni, have won just three games all season. The Gialloblu sit at the foot of the table, 13 points adrift of safety.
