Neymar 'extraordinary' in scoring hat trick in PSG's victory - Thomas Tuchel

Stevie Nicol says while PSG eased past Red Star, he's looking for Neymar and company to show up in the knockout rounds.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel was absolutely delighted with Neymar after he had a hat trick in the 6-1 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade in Champions League group-stage action on Wednesday.

Neymar struck twice through free kicks and finished off a slick team move as Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe also found the back of the net.

"He was sensational," Tuchel said. "You could feel that he was hungry to put in a top performance and be decisive.

"It is very important for us to have the best player in Europe. Neymar is extraordinary."

Speaking to RMC Sport moments after the match, Neymar expressed his satisfaction with the result and his performance.

"It was a big day for us," Neymar said. "We played the way that we wanted to. I feel good when I am playing football. I feel good when I am on the pitch."

And Thomas Meunier said Neymar, who became the fifth South American player with 30 goals in the Champions League, is vital to his side's success.

"It is not the first time that Neymar has played this well," Meunier told reporters. "He has already scored a decent number of hat tricks and braces and provided many assists.

"PSG is not just Neymar. In a sporting sense, we are a complete squad. Us without Neymar and Neymar without us, neither would be going in the right direction."

Tuchel was also very happy with PSG's overall showing, particularly their explosive first half that saw them rack up four goals.

"My players had a good match," Tuchel said. "In the first half, we had 71 percent possession. It was a top performance.

"The first half was amazing. I was also satisfied with the second half. We were focused and very, very serious without being disrespectful. It was a really top performance."

Midfielder Marco Verratti was influential on his return to Champions League action and he singled out the opening goal as the key to unlocking the match.

"It was an important game for us," Verratti told RMC Sport. "We lost in Liverpool and we needed to get back home. You saw from the start that we wanted to win and to be dangerous. The early goal helped us to unlock the match.

"We were respectful, but we put in a great display. I think that we can be happy with the win and the manner of the victory."

Defender Presnel Kimpembe was full of praise for fellow central defender and captain Thiago Silva.

"Thiago is my favourite defender," Kimpembe told the broadcaster. "He is my reference and he taught me everything that I know.

"I am still listening to him regarding my positioning. His guidance helps me on the pitch."

On the topic of the Red Star win, Kimpembe praised the "collective and individual" elements of the performance.

"We knew that it was a Champions League match, so we had no excuse to lack concentration," he said. "We made a good start, so we were happy.

"We try to play that way each game. We were all ready and I think that we were great collectively and individually."
