PSG can win Champions League with 'minimal changes' - Thiago Silva

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has rejected the idea that sweeping changes are needed in order for them to finally come close to achieving their dream of Champions League glory.

The Ligue 1 leaders fell short at the round-of-16 stage for the second consecutive season, going out to Real Madrid after Barcelona the year before, and coach Unai Emery is expected to pay for that failure with his job the same way that Laurent Blanc did before him.

However, speaking with Veja, Silva stated his belief that continental success is not an exact science and that little needs changing at Parc des Princes.

"If I knew the formula, I think I would have won the Champions League by now," said the 33-year-old. "I arrived six years ago and we have ended up in the same place each time.

"We have reached the quarterfinals before [four times], but the past two years we have only reach the round-of-16 and come up against two of the main contenders in Barca and Real. We must work hard and concentrate on the positives, even if that might be difficult -- we have to continue to believe.

"I do not think that everything should be changed just because we were knocked out -- this is not the way to go. The spine needs to be maintained to form the base for next season. Minimal changes are necessary."

Layvin Kurzawa, who was left out completely for the 2-1 loss at home to Real earlier this month that completed a 5-2 aggregate defeat, admitted to PSG's official website the elimination was a big setback.

However, the ex-Monaco man's attention has now turned to Saturday's Coupe de la Ligue final against his former club at Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux and the France international is trying to stay positive for the remainder of the season.

"It was a real blow to get knocked out, but we quickly got back to work," Kurzawa said. "We have continued winning despite the disappointment.

"Now, we want to win every trophy possible, starting with the Coupe de la Ligue. It will not be easy, because Monaco are formidable opponents, but we have to do what is needed to achieve our objectives.

"Our elimination from the Champions League served as a lesson."

A win over Monaco this weekend would mean an eighth title for PSG, the most successful side in the competition's history.

Ahead of the clash, local police authorities have prohibited the presence of former members of the Kop of Boulogne and Karsud elements of Les Parisiens' Ultras, who are in conflict with the K-Soce Team group that forms the core element of the capital club's fanatic support.

Despite more than 300 Ultras being affected, the Paris Ultras Collective will be present for the final.
