PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi fined €18m for BeIN trade dispute in Egypt

ESPN FC's Julien Laurens discusses the excitement surrounding U.S. youth international and PSG forward Timothy Weah.

Paris Saint-Germain chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been fined €18 million in his role as president of BeIN Sports for violating the protection of competition act in Egypt.

As reported by Strategies, via Le Parisien, an Egyptian trade tribunal sentenced Al-Khelaifi and BeIN Sports to the heavy fine on Monday after being found guilty of forcing subscribers within Egypt to replace domestic satellite operator Nilesat with a Qatari operator for their channels to function.

In January, BeIN was sentenced by the same court for similar reasons, but that was for selling leagues in packages when each one "represents a separate product and is not connected in any way to the other."

Al-Khelaifi is facing battles on multiple other fronts as well. On top of PSG's battle to stay within the limits of UEFA's financial fair play (FFP) rules, the Qatari supremo is also fighting a FIFA corruption investigation regarding 2026 and 2030 World Cup television rights.

The 44-year-old is in Brazil this week visiting injured superstar Neymar with sporting director Antero Henrique as PSG plan for the future after their latest Champions League failure at the hands of Real Madrid.
