Unai Emery delighted by PSG performance in Strasbourg win

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery praised his side's improved performance in a 4-2 Coupe de la Ligue win at Strasbourg on Wednesday.

PSG had been beaten 2-1 by the same opponents in Ligue 1, but a Yoann Salmier own goal and strikes from Angel Di Maria, Dani Alves and Julian Draxler set up a cup quarterfinal at Amiens next month.

"We talked about where we needed to improve against Strasbourg after the league loss," Emery told a news conference.

"It was a different game here. We mastered it and wanted to maintain a certain level up top but also at the back.

"We scored plenty of goals, so I am pleased. We want to go on a wonderful run. We are full of ambition as far as this competition is concerned."

Giovani Lo Celso was part of a rare two-man central midfield unit as Emery switched from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1, and said he felt it had been a good achievement for PSG to win as comfortably as they did.

"This was an important win on a difficult pitch," he added. "We were up against a good Strasbourg side. We are a big club and we want to win every single competition we play in."

Javier Pastore played in his preferred attacking midfield role and told France Television he felt that the team had shown greater creativity.

"We played well," the Argentina international said. "We mastered it and created a lot of chances -- that is what the coach wanted.

"They got one back, but we were able to stay focused and got the third goal. This made our task easier."
