PSG sign Timothy Weah, son of former Ballon d'Or winner, to first pro contract

Timothy Weah signed his first professional contract with Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, tying the United States youth international to the Parc des Princes until 2020.

Weah, 17, is the son of former striker George Weah, the 1995 Ballon d'Or winner who played for PSG, AC Milan and Monaco during his legendary career.

The younger Weah, who was born in New York, joined Les Parisiens' youth academy in 2014 and recently represented the U.S. at this year's CONCACAF Under-17 Championship in Panama.

He also stood out for PSG in the UEFA Youth League last season and scored three times in his first start -- an 8-1 demolition of Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad.

"I am very proud to continue my adventure with PSG by signing this professional contract," Weah told the Ligue 1 giants' official website. "I am at a great club and I cannot wait to continue to progress towards my goal of one day playing for the senior side."

It was been a busy day for the recently deposed former French champions as far as their youth academy is concerned.

Young right-back Colin Dagba joined Weah in penning his first professional contract with the club, and the 18-year-old defender is also now tied down until 2020 after also impressing for PSG in the Youth League, as well as with the CFA (reserve) side.

"To sign my first professional contract with PSG is a source of great pride," Dagba said. "It is a major European club and I know that I must continue to work hard in order to progress and move forward each day."

On top of Weah and Dagba, young midfielder Stanley N'Soki and attacker Metehan Guclu have also signed youth contracts.

Meanwhile, PSG confirmed over the weekend that versatile full-back Youssouf Sabaly has permanently joined Bordeaux after a successful loan spell at Matmut Atlantique last season.

Despite being highly rated in Paris, Sabaly failed to make a single Ligue 1 appearance after turning professional and spent two seasons on loan with now-defunct Evian Thonon Gaillard, as well as another with Nantes, before finally being moved on.

Sabaly, 24, was part of the France squad that won the 2013 FIFA under-20 World Cup in Turkey, along with goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, another fellow youth academy graduate in Jean-Christophe Bahebeck and former PSG teammate Lucas Digne -- who was still a Lille player at the time.
