Cavani, Verratti, Lacazette and Silva in running for annual Ligue 1 awards

Paris Saint-Germain pair Edinson Cavani and Marco Verratti, Monaco's Bernardo Silva and Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon are in the running for the Ligue 1 player of the year award.

The award, handed out by the National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP), could go to Cavani for his 31 goals and three assists in 32 appearances in Le Championnat so far.

Lacazette, 25, boasts 24 goals from 27 appearances, though, while Verratti and Silva have consistently turned in impressive displays as PSG and Monaco vie for the Ligue 1 title.

Silva's teammate Kylian Mbappe has been placed in the young player of the year category this time.

The 18-year-old France international has scored 13 goals and assisted five more from 24 appearances -- just 13 starts -- and is up against another of Monaco's young stars, Thomas Lemar, for the award.

Nice's Wylan Cyprien and PSG's Adrien Rabiot are the other contenders for the title but Mbappe is the early favourite to take the honours.

Despite what might end up as Les Parisiens' first season since 2011-12 without the crown in Ligue 1, coach Unai Emery is one of the four contenders to win the coach of the year prize.

However, Leonardo Jardim of Monaco and Nice's Lucien Favre are expected to battle it out for the gong after mounting unexpected title challenges.

Bordeaux's Jocelyn Gourvennec is also nominated, but considering the stellar performances of Monaco and Nice this season, his impressive work at Matmut Atlantique is likely to go unrewarded.

Monaco's Danijel Subasic, Lyon's Anthony Lopes, Dijon Baptiste Reynet and PSG's Kevin Trapp are up for the goalkeeper of the year award, where the omissions of St Etienne's Stephane Ruffier and Yoan Cardinale of Nice were surprising.

There is also a prize for the best French player plying their trade abroad and the contenders for that title are Chelsea's N'Golo Kante, Real Madrid's Karim Benzema, Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.

Kante was recently voted PFA Player's Player of the year in the Premier League, while Dembele has been a revelation is his debut season in the Bundesliga and Griezmann has enjoyed another strong season in La Liga.
