PSG fans banned from Angers, Metz away games due to cup final trouble

Paris Saint-Germain have "accepted with great difficulty" a ban on their travelling supporters for the Ligue 1 trips to face Angers and Metz later this month after Parc OL was damaged during the Coupe de la Ligue final.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel's (LFP) disciplinary committee decided on Thursday to take the case of damages done by PSG fans in the 4-1 win over Monaco in Lyon on Saturday under further consideration.

It decided that until April 27 the club's supporters will be banned from attending away games, meaning there will be no travelling contingent for the Angers and Metz clashes.

The French champions have responded to the news by noting the decision but emphasising their disappointment.

"PSG takes note of this decision, which will impact the away trips of the professional team to Angers on April 14 and to Metz four days later," an official statement read. "Nevertheless, the club accepts with great difficulty to see all of the supporters, who have behaved impeccably up until now, deprived of the right to follow the team of their heart as they enter a decisive phase in the fight to be French champions."

PSG added that they do not contest the "unacceptable" damage done to Parc OL and "regret" that the disciplinary commission found themselves in such a delicate situation.

PSG expressed their "confidence in the independence" of the disciplinary commission amid intense media pressure over the damages, as well as their hope that "serious failures" in the LFP's organisation and handling of the match will be also be exposed if found.

They also expressed their happiness that 12,500 supporters were able to travel to Parc OL for the Coupe de la Ligue final and insisted that the damages were done by "a small minority" before calling on the fans to "get behind the team" for the rest of the season.
