Paris Saint-Germain can show strength against Monaco - Trapp

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp believes that beating Monaco in the Coupe de la Ligue final at Parc OL on Saturday will prove the French champions are still the strongest team in the country.

Les Monegasques are faring better than their capital rivals in the Champions League and Leonardo Jardim's troops also lead Unai Emery's men by three points in Ligue 1.

Despite that, Trapp told journalists at the prematch news conference that continued domestic dominance will speak louder than Monaco's vibrant displays this weekend.

"We have won 12 titles from the last possible 13 in France," Trapp said. "We now have a new crown to target and to win that will be the best way to prove that we are still the best team in France."

Trapp admitted he and his PSG teammates were devastated by their recent 6-1 humiliation away at Barcelona in the Champions League but resolved to help Les Parisiens push forward.

"We were very disappointed after our elimination in Barcelona but this final is a fresh opportunity to win another title," Trapp said. "Even if it is hard to forget, we must now go forward and focus on the next few titles up for grabs. We are in good form in 2017 and we must keep going this way."

Speaking with the capital club's official website, midfielder Marco Verratti also conceded his Barcelona disappointment.

However, the Italy international preferred to look at the positives and rejected the idea that further title success in France will come easily.

"After we were knocked out, we were the most disappointed of all," said Verratti. "Having said that, we still have a lot of matches to play and trophies to win with the league and the domestic cup competitions.

"We have shown in the past that we can win everything in France. A lot of people think it is easy -- it is never easy! This year, it is a little more difficult than last season. That pushes us to do better, to always give 110 percent, because no one gifts you anything."
