Unai Emery praises Paris Saint-Germain's 'patience' in Ludogorets win

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery was pleased by his side's "patience" in their 3-1 win away at Ludogorets Razgrad in their second UEFA Champions League Group A fixture.

The French giants came from a goal down to win thanks to a first half Blaise Matuidi effort and two second half Edinson Cavani strikes. However, Alphonse Areola's penalty save with PSG 2-1 up came at a pivotal moment.

Emery was happy his players remained "calm" and were rewarded in the end for not giving in to frustration.

"The team played a good match," Emery said after the final whistle at Vasil Levski National Stadium. "What was important was that when the other team scored, we stayed calm and confident. We showed patience and scored. I am pleased."

Emery started with Matuidi, Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti in midfield, the foundations of predecessor Laurent Blanc's formerly dominant PSG side. The Spaniard was happy with his selection but admitted he could have gone with a different combination.

"These are very good players," Emery said of Matuidi, Motta and Verratti. "Today, I went with those three. If I pick others, though, they will also satisfy me."

Cavani was among the goals again, scoring twice in the second half to make it three goals from his first two Champions League appearances this season.

The Uruguay international admitted that PSG struggled to get going but improved after their equaliser.

"The first half was difficult," Cavani said. "We grabbed a goal at a moment when it was proving difficult to score and open the match back up. After our equaliser, it was a different game.

"We were able to get a second goal, through a free kick. It is good. These are the things we work on in training during the week and it is important for PSG as a team. We are working hard to get out of our difficult run of form."

That is now nine goals from eight outings across all competitions this season for Cavani and El Matador is becoming increasingly important to Emery's team. However, the South American insisted it is a team effort.

"No. I do not feel more than a player in this team and everybody should feel the same way," Cavani said. "I am important, as are all of my teammates and the people who work alongside this team.

"That is everybody's mentality and we need to continue to think that way in order to continue improving and to play well like we did here."

Matuidi scored PSG's equaliser but played a part in Ludogorets' opener as he and Cavani both split the wall, giving Areola no chance. The France international owned up to his role in the goal.

"I made a small mistake by turning a bit," Matuidi confessed. "I think I was a little apprehensive [he fractured his nose in last Friday's 2-0 defeat away at Toulouse]."
