PSG's Serge Aurier vows to 'continue to work hard' despite sentence

Paris Saint-Germain's Serge Aurier has expressed his desire to "continue to work hard" while a court issue regarding the right back's alleged attack on a police officer rumbles on.

Aurier, 23, was handed a two-month suspended prison sentence, as well as community service and a fine of €1,500 to cover court costs, by the Correctional Court in Paris on Monday.

The Ivory Coast international has confirmed he is appealing the initial verdict but also moved to reassure PSG supporters that he remains committed on the pitch.

"First of all, thank you for your messages of support," Aurier said on Instagram. "As you will have already read in the press, I have appealed against the initial decision. I believe in justice and I await the chance to explain myself again on this subject.

"If there is something that I would like to say today, then it is my gratitude towards my club, its leaders and our supporters. I read the same things in the press that you do and obviously and I am conscious that you will not like it.

"I have been lucky enough to turn my passion into my job. I am going to continue to work hard at training and on the pitch, so that the headlines will soon speak of the trophies we dream of an d want to win with this team, for the club, our supporters and our families."

Aurier was arrested following an argument outside a nightclub near the Champs Elysees in the early hours of May 30 and put in a holding cell for "using violence on a police officer."

PSG released a statement to confirm that the French champions have "taken note of the decision against Aurier" but still "presume the player innocent" as the case is still ongoing.

The Ligue 1 giants also emphasised the player's "professional attitude" since returning to training in July and will make "no further comment until Aurier's appeal has been judged."
