Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani laments difficult first match back

Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani admitted he suffered a "difficult" first match of the season, despite the French champions' 3-0 win over FC Metz at Parc des Princes on Sunday.

Lucas Moura and Layvin Kurzawa found the back of the net in the second half before a late Jonathan Rivierez own goal completed the scoring but the Uruguay international missed a succession of chances and vowed to "improve."

"Yes, I had a lot of opportunities," Cavani told L'Equipe after the final whistle. "The most important thing is that we won though. We worked on a lot of things in training this week and it was good to get a win for the team's motivation and peace."

"We will continue to work. It is a match, my first after my injury [thigh]. I hope to improve. It is just one match and we still have things we need in order to grow. That is football, it is like that -- particularly for attackers."

Kurzawa was one of PSG's standout performers and scored the second goal of the evening with a header. The France international expressed his "hope" that his good start to the campaign continues.

"It's a good start to the season, both for the team and for me personally," the 23-year-old told PSG's official website. "I hope it continues. I can feel the confidence of the coach and my teammates and it shows on the pitch and at training.

"We struggled a little to score, but we knew it would eventually go in. The main thing was to not concede and make sure we got the win."

Lucas scored the opening goal in the capital and felt improvement in the team's performance but insisted that the hosts were not "worried" by a scoreless opening half.

"It was a very difficult match, but we controlled it from start to finish," the Brazil international said. "In the first half, we weren't able to score, but we weren't worried. It was better after we made the breakthrough and the most important thing was to get the win. We are getting better."

Coach Unai Emery made his Parc des Princes debut and called the result a "positive" one, as well as picking out goalkeeper Kevin Trapp for praise.

"I'm very happy with my team and the 3-0 win," the Spaniard declared. "We are very happy to start with a victory in our first home outing of the season. We created a lot of chances, opened the scoring, but then the game got away from us a little."

"Kevin Trapp made two very good saves, before we got control back again and scored two more goals. It's good for the confidence. It's a positive night."

Although absent against Metz, defender Marquinhos won Olympic gold with Brazil on Saturday and teammate Lucas praised his compatriot's "emotional" success.

"I am very happy for him and for Brazil -- the whole country deserved that gold medal. It was a great game, full of emotion."
