PSG's Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva to miss Trophee des Champions clash

Paris Saint-Germain will be without captain Thiago Silva and striker Edinson Cavani when they take on Lyon for the Trophee des Champions at Worthersee Stadion in Klagenfurt, Austria, on Saturday.

The defending champions left the capital on Friday morning and the club confirmed that the Brazil and Uruguay internationals were not among the travelling party.

Silva injured his hip during PSG's 3-1 win over Real Madrid in Columbus, Ohio, in the second of the French giants' three International Champions Cup (ICC) fixtures and has been unable to train since sustaining the problem in a challenge on Jese Rodriguez.

According to L'Equipe, the skipper is also expected to miss the opening match of the Ligue 1 season away at Bastia.

With Marquinhos currently on Olympic duty with Brazil in Rio de Janieiro, compatriot David Luiz and youth academy graduate Presnel Kimpembe are the only two recognised central defenders in the 19-man squad.

Cavani has not made the trip to Austria because of muscular pains in his hamstrings. The striker, who scored 19 goals and assisted five more in 32 league appearances, netted once in Les Parisiens' three ICC games while in the U.S. for preseason.

El Matador's absence will give Jean-Kevin Augustin a chance to impress PSG coach Unai Emery. The 19-year-old won the 2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship with France earlier this summer and took the Golden Player and Top Scorer awards with six goals and one assist in five outings.

On top of Silva and Cavani's absences, the French champions are also missing Grzegorz Krychowiak, Adrien Rabiot and Salvatore Sirigu.

The Poland international is suspended because of a ban incurred while playing for former club Sevilla, which has been carried over to his new club, while the France U21 midfielder is also suspended because an accumulation of yellow cards towards the end of last season.

Sirigu returned to training after Euro 2016 while his teammates were in the U.S. and requested to remain in Paris as he tries to secure a move away from Parc des Princes.

The Italy international lost his place as PSG's starting goalkeeper to Kevin Trapp last campaign and the former Palermo man has been seemingly been relegated one place further down the pecking order with the return of Alphonse Areola from his loan spell at Villarreal.

Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi have been included in Emery's squad for the Lyon clash despite a lack of preseason action but talented youngsters Odsonne Edouard, Alec Georgen and Remy Descamps have all been left out.

Edouard and Georgen are expected to make loan moves away before the end of the transfer window.
