PSG boss Unai Emery inspired by Guardiola, Simeone and Bielsa

Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery has said that he has been inspired by Pep Guardiola, Diego Simeone and Marcelo Bielsa during his coaching career.

Emery, 44, is settling into his new role at the French champions after leaving Sevilla to replace Laurent Blanc last month.

When asked by L'Equipe if he had a role model in management, the Spaniard mentioned Manchester City's Guardiola, Atletico Madrid coach Simeone and the obsessive and analytical ex-Athletic Bilbao and Marseille boss Bielsa.

"During my four years at Valencia, Pep Guardiola was at Barcelona," Emery said. "He brings a lot of things to football: tactically, in the game intelligence of a team, the movement of players and possession.

"Another coach who inspires me, in a different style, is Diego Simeone. I really like the pressure and intensity that he demands of his team. I like my team to take responsibility for the game and to show personality.

"I've been inspired by Guardiola, Simeone and also by Bielsa."

Emery won three Europa League titles in a row with Sevilla before joining PSG and for that reason he says he was not surprised when the French champions came calling.

"When you win the Europa League once, you earn recognition," Emery said. "To win it once is good. To win it two times, three times -- it's not easy. Only Giovanni Trapattoni, a great coach, has won it three times. I'm the second.

"PSG called me when I was very comfortable at Sevilla. But I think that with PSG I can go a bit further again."

Under Blanc, PSG completed a clean sweep of domestic trophies two years in a row but they failed to get past the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Emery believes he has been hired to build on the work of his predecessor.

"I've come to improve the details and what's already worked well," he said. "It's very difficult. For me, it's a big challenge.

"But I only know one path -- work and the ability of the squad to cope with it ... PSG are going to grow and it's a good opportunity for the players, but also for me and my staff, to leave a mark in France and in Europe."
