Germany goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke says Paris Saint-Germain's Kevin Trapp is "on the right track" following his assured display in the 2-1 Champions League win over Chelsea.
Trapp, 25, faced criticism earlier this season after making glaring errors in a 2-2 draw with Bordeaux in Ligue 1 and in a 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.
But PSG's summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt was in form during the first leg of the French champions' round-of-16 tie against Chelsea in Paris on Tuesday.
Trapp, yet to be capped by Germany, made a sharp reflex stop to keep out a close-range Diego Costa header when the game was still scoreless, and he then saved at the striker's feet soon after the interval.
"He is unquestionably on the right track," Kopke told Le Parisien. "I hope that this performance will give him even more confidence for what follows.
"A lot will be expected of him in the return leg, but if he manages to keep his cool I have no worries for him. Mentally, he's very tough."
While Trapp has yet to play for Germany at senior level, he was called up to the squad several times in 2015.
Former PSG keeper Bernard Lama believes that Trapp is now comfortably justifying his place ahead of Salvatore Sirigu in the Ligue 1 leaders' starting lineup.
"We watch him closely every match but his standard should no longer be the subject of debate," Lama told Le Parisien. "At PSG there is one goalkeeper that's superior to the other and it's Kevin Trapp because he's the most complete.
"In the end, there's only been one match where he's lost it for his team -- against Real Madrid. But how many times has he saved them? For me, there's no longer any debate."
Lama feels Trapp has suffered from a lack of practice at times because PSG have been so dominant domestically.
But the former France international says Laurent Blanc's side are starting to feel the benefit of having Trapp at the club.
"He relieves his team with his aerial interventions," Lama said. "You feel that in these types of situations his defenders are confident. His game with the ball at his feet is also excellent."
