Adrien Rabiot booed by PSG fans after requesting January loan move

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot was booed by his own supporters during the 2-0 defeat of Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday after threatening to force a move away from the club.

Rabiot, 20, who has been linked with a switch to Arsenal in recent weeks, told Telefoot that he was expecting to be allowed to leave on loan in January should he drop to the bench following Marco Verratti's return from injury.

PSG coach Laurent Blanc said before the Champions League game with Shakhtar that Rabiot's comments had angered him and also accused the player of not respecting the club.

Many of PSG's supporters seemingly agreed as they jeered Rabiot's name when it was called out at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night, while they also booed his early touches.

The France under-21 international's attitude has not impressed many ex-professional players either.

Former France international and ex-PSG boss Luis Fernandez advised the player to "be quiet and play" and to "respect the people who employ you and who you're working with."

Ex-France and Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf also told RMC that Rabiot could have been dealt with in a more severe manner.

"If I had the choice, Adrien Rabiot wouldn't have started against Donetsk," he said. "He's still at an age where he can receive lessons. At at the age of 20, you have the right to talk nonsense but the elders, and especially the superiors, have the right to punish you.

"When you're part of a club, you're part of a squad. To position yourself like that at the age of 20, it's a lack of respect in relation to the squad and to the club that employs you. It would be a good lesson in order to learn humility."

Leboeuf also reminded Rabiot that while he may have played a clutch of games for PSG's first team, his professional career is still in its infancy.

"He has a huge amount of talent but he also has flaws and he'll have to learn to keep himself quiet," Leboeuf said. "He doesn't have the right to talk right now.

"He signed a five-year contract and like Laurent Blanc said, 'you were happy when you signed, you're earning a good living -- learn and be quiet.'"
