Gregory van der Wiel unhappy with PSG over punishment

Paris Saint-Germain full-back Gregory van der Wiel has revealed his frustration over apparently being punished for refusing to take part in a postmatch warm down.

Van der Wiel, 27, contradicted his club when he tweeted that he was fit to play despite being left out of the squad for a game in Montpellier on Aug. 21.

PSG boss Laurent Blanc said after that match that it was "bizarre" that the Netherlands international would do so, since he had trained on his own in the week leading up to it.

However, RMC reported that Van der Wiel had not featured against Montpellier for refusing to take to the Parc des Princes following PSG's game against Gazelec Ajaccio a week previously.

Van der Wiel, currently on duty with Dutch national team, has now appeared to confirm that version of events. The right-back has yet to play for the French champions this season but he was on the bench for the 2-0 win against Gazelec on August 16.

"That week I had some problems with my Achilles tendon and it restarted, but apparently that wasn't clear for the staff," he told Goal.com.

"When they wanted me to do some exercises after the match, I thought it would be better if I rested because of my Achilles tendon. They took that as a refusal and I was punished for it."

Now in his fourth season in Paris, Van der Wiel has fallen down the pecking order behind Serge Aurier and Marquinhos.

"I've given everything for three years for the club," he said. "It's not a way to treat people, but there's no sense in criticising or getting angry."

In May, the former Ajax player told Le Parisien that he was unsettled by the fact that he had yet to sign a contract extension.

His deal runs out in June and he has said that being left out of the PSG side this season had been testing.

"I'm a winner and want to play," he told Goal. "I have to fight for my place and that's what I want to do."
