Paris Saint-Germain supporters ban legalised by French government

The French government has legalised Paris Saint-Germain's controversial blacklist of supporters banned from the club's games.

Former PSG president Robin Leproux put into action in 2010 a plan to reduce the influence of the club's fan associations, many of whom had links to extreme right- and left-wing groups and had been involved in violence.

Leproux's initiative was continued by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) when they took over at PSG in 2011, and they drew up a list of fans who would not be allowed to purchase tickets for the French champions' encounters.

The source of a number of legal cases brought by disgruntled fans, and criticised by France's national commission for the freedom of information (CNIL), the list was considered illegal.

However, France's Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, has now validated the document, which has been rechristened 'Stadium File,' making it legal.

PSG will now hand the dossier over to police and all of France's football clubs will have access to it.
