Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva ruled out of UCL trip to Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has been ruled out of Tuesday's Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Barcelona.

Silva, 30, was forced off after 21 minutes of the first leg due to a thigh injury, with his replacement David Luiz struggling as PSG went on to lose 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.

Brazil international Silva missed PSG's 3-1 Ligue 1 victory at Nice on Saturday, but has not recovered in time to travel for the Camp Nou clash.

A statement released on PSG's official website on Monday read: "Originally named in the Paris Saint-Germain squad for the Champions League quarterfinal second leg away to FC Barcelona on Tuesday, Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has withdrawn from the squad with injury.

"The Paris Saint-Germain captain will remain at the Ooredoo Training Centre to continue his rehabilitation from injury."

Laurent Blanc has a selection dilemma for Tuesday's match in Spain, with Serge Aurier suspended and Thiago Motta also out injured.

Needing his side to score at least three goals to qualify, the PSG coach will be able to welcome back Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marco Verratti after the duo completed their one-match suspensions having sat out the first-leg defeat.

Following Saturday's win at Nice, PSG currently trail Ligue 1 leaders Lyon by goal difference but have played a game less than Hubert Fournier's side.
