Adrien Rabiot signs PSG deal extension despite Roma links

Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Adrian Rabiot has extended his contract until 2019.

Rabiot, 19, was due to be a free agent at the end of the current season and had rejected the offer of a new five-year deal in the summer, but he has now committed his future to the French side.

Rabiot had been linked with a number of clubs around Europe, including Arsenal and Chelsea, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had earlier confirmed to Le Parisien that talks had taken place with Roma before the close of the summer transfer window.

As recently as Friday morning, one of the player's representatives was quoted as telling Ajax Showtime that, while he would not join the Dutch champions, he was "willing to leave PSG and sign a contract with Roma."

However, the midfielder -- a product of the PSG youth academy -- has now committed to the Ligue 1 champions.

"I am very happy to remain a player of Paris Saint-Germain, the club that made me the player I am today," he told the official PSG website. "I would like to thank the president, who kept discussions open in recent months and the sporting management for their support.

"It was here at Paris Saint-Germain that I grew up and enjoyed my first experiences as a player. The club's project is ambitious and I'm very proud to be a part of it for the coming years. Now I want to concentrate on my football, on my game and give my best for Paris Saint-Germain on the pitch and for the supporters."

Al-Khelaifi added: "I am delighted with the contract extension of Adrien Rabiot with Paris Saint-Germain, for four additional seasons from June 2015. Adrien grew up here with us and I'm convinced we will live some great footballing experiences in the future. We see him as one of the best players of tomorrow.

"It was very important for the club that a young French player, with the talent that Adrien possesses, remained a member of the Paris Saint-Germain family. I know that Adrien's family shares his joy at being a part of Paris Saint-Germain."
