Paraguay, former Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio agree to new deal

Paraguay has hired former Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio as their new boss, the country's federation announced Monday.

The length of the deal will encompass the 2019 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Colombian had been reportedly linked to open positions with the national teams of his native country and the United States.

Osorio parted ways with Mexico last month following their round of 16 exit at the World Cup in Russia. The team knocked off 2014 champions Germany in the opening game of the group stage. Mexico then defeated South Korea but closed out the group stage with a loss to Sweden.

A loss to Brazil in the knockout stage ensured Mexico's seventh straight appearance at the World Cup without reaching the quarterfinals.

Osorio ended his tenure with Mexico with the best win percentage of any coach in team history, and tied for fifth-most wins in team history. The 57-year-old has coached club sides in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and the United States.
