PAOK boss hit on head by beer can thrown from crowd; game abandoned

A Greek league playoff between Panathinaikos and PAOK was abandoned after PAOK coach Vladan Ivic was hit on the head by a beer can thrown from the stands.

Ivic was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, which followed a 54th-minute brawl involving several players.

Play was suspended for more than an hour before the game was eventually abandoned.

Panathinaikos were leading 1-0 thanks to a ninth-minute goal from Marcus Berg.

On their official website, PAOK condemned what they described as "unprecedented shameful conditions reigning at the expense of PAOK."

A statement condemned what happened at "this so-called football encounter" and said: "The tension boiled over in the stands and Vladan Ivic was hit on the head by a full beer can thrown from the fans.

"The match was suspended in the 58th minute and everybody was called to the dressing rooms."
